Andrei Arshavin bagged four goals as Arsenal dent Liverpool's title bid following an astonishing 4-4 draw at Anfield.
Arsenal took the lead on 36 minutes when the normally-reliable Javier Mascherano lost the ball on the edge of the penalty area and Cesc Fàbregas exchanged passes with Samir Nasri before crossing for Arshavin, who shot in off the underside of the bar.
Three minutes into the second half, Liverpool were level. Álvaro Arbeloa's cross was poorly dealt with by Bacary Sagna and Dirk Kuyt was able to cross from the right for Fernando Torres to head home.
The hosts went ahead seven minutes later as Kieran Gibbs’ hasty clearance was collected by Kuyt and Yossi Benayoun bravely headed over the line before Łukasz Fabiański could claw it out.
Arshavin brought Arsenal back on level terms in the 67th minute when he dispossessed Arbeloa before smashing a 25-yard shot beyond the diving Pepe Reina.
Three minutes later a third Liverpool error handed Arsenal the lead again. Fábio Aurélio played a left-wing cross straight to Arshavin and the Russian forward made no mistake from 10 yards out.
Liverpool responded again and made it 3-3 two minutes later when Torres controlled Albert Riera's cross, turned Mikaël Silvestre and fired past Fabiański.
Liverpool desperately pushed for the winner but that cost them as substitute Theo Walcott broke from a corner and played in Arshavin to score his fourth in injury time.
Arsenal were back in front but it still was not over and five minutes added time signalled by the fourth official encouraged Liverpool to keep on going.
Mascherano’s header across goal cause confusion on the edge of the six-yard box, Ryan Babel climbed highest and the ball dropped to Benayoun for the midfielder to finish it off.
