Hernán Crespo came off the bench to claim a late equaliser as Inter Milan fought back from two goals down to salvage a 3-3 draw with AS Roma at San Siro.
Roma showed no fear in attacking the Serie A leaders and they deservedly went ahead when Daniele De Rossi headed in Marco Motta's cross in the 23rd minute.
The visitors doubled their lead seven minutes later as John-Arne Riise overlapped down the left wing and outmuscled Maicon to poke the ball past the onrushing Júlio César.
Mario Balotelli pulled one back shortly after the break for Inter, firing a fine first-time shot past Doni after being found by Adriano.
But Roma's two-goal advantage was restored in the 57th minute when Matteo Brighi pick up a loose ball and drilled it low past César.
The hosts were gifted a route back into the match when Balotelli fell in the penalty area as he tried to take the ball past De Rossi on 63 minutes. The youngster stepped up himself to coolly convert the spot-kick.
And Inter drew level when Crespo headed in a Luís Figo cross at the near post with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.
Riise came close to scoring a second five minutes from time, but César pushed his powerful free kick away for a corner. De Rossi then had a fantastic opportunity to win the match in the last minute, but dragged his shot wide.
After crashing out of the UEFA Cup on Thursday, AC Milan slipped further behind Inter Milan and Juventus in the title race after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Sampdoria at a rain-drenched Stadio Luigi Ferraris, leaving Carlo Ancelotti's job hanging in the balance.
Antonio Cassano put the Blucerchiati ahead in the 33rd minute as he tapped in the ball at the far post after Andrea Raggi headed on Angelo Palombo's corner. Milan claimed that the ball had failed to fully cross the line, but after consultation with his linesman, referee Gianluca Rocchi gave the goal.
Giampaolo Pazzini doubled the advantage in the 51st minute after he had beaten Daniele Bonera in the penalty area and shot past Christian Abbiati following a neat reverse pass from Cassano.
Alexandre Pato reduced the deficit in the 80th minute after linking up with Giuseppe Favalli on the left flank.
Two minutes later, Milan thought they had equalised when Andrea Pirlo's free-kick curled into the goal, but Emerson got the deftest of touches to the ball from an offside position and the goal was ruled out.
