Landon Donovan will return to the Los Angeles Galaxy after his loan to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich expires next week.

Donovan, who has 84 goals and 69 assists in 183 career MLS games, has been with the Bavarians on a short-term deal since January 22.

He'll be back at Galaxy practice on March 10, just two weeks before the MLS regular-season opener against DC United at the Home Depot Center on March 22.

"I am very excited to be returning home to my teammates and the LA Galaxy," Donovan said in a written statement.

"I would like to thank Bayern Munich for the opportunity to play with one of the premier clubs in Europe, as well as all their coaches and players for welcoming me into the club.

"Although the results were not what we had hoped for, the time in Germany still was very positive for me. I am fit, motivated, and excited to be coming back as a better, more experienced player."

Galaxy general manager and head coach Bruce Arena added: "We are looking forward to Landon re-joining the club next week as we continue our final preparations for the 2009 MLS Season, including our final pre-season match against the Chicago Fire in Tempe, Arizona.

"He is a very important part of our club and will be coming back to us very motivated and fit for the upcoming season."

The striker, who turned 27 on March 4, made five Bundesliga appearances and one DFB Cup appearance during his short stint in Germany.

He scored four goals with Bayern but had difficulty getting worthwhile playing time with the likes of strikers Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski ahead of him.
