Diego Forlán in Premier League link

Diego Forlán could be set for a return to the Premier League after his agent revealed there was plenty of interest in the Atlético Madrid striker.

The Uruguay international became a cult figure during his two-and-a-half-year stay with Manchester United, with his whole-hearted displays appreciated by the Old Trafford faithful despite a lack of goals.

The 29-year-old scored only 17 goals in 95 appearances for the Red Devils between January 2001 and August 2004, but has been in prolific form since leaving the North West for Spain in 2004.

Forlán, who netted 57 goals in 120 games for Villarreal between 2004-2007, has found the back of the net 18 times in his first season with Los Rojiblancos and is the La Liga's joint second top-scorer this campaign with 19 league goals.

However, his agent Daniel Bolotnikoff admits that while Forlán is currently happy in Madrid, a summer transfer to the Premier League may be on the cards.

Bolotnikoff told Sky Sports: "I have received calls from big European clubs requesting information about the situation, but I am not authorised to give their names.

"My answer is always the same. Atlético Madrid will decide on this subject.

"Diego is enjoying a great season in front of goal and is happy in Madrid, but at the end of the season we will be in a better position to evaluate the situation.

"Forlán could have a big role in England."

Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked with bids for the former Independiente player, but Forlán said: "Now those (clubs) are not of interest to me."
