AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini has revealed that Sunday's Derby della Maddonina will be his last and hopes to end his final derby with something to celebrate.

Maldini has played in many derby matches during his long and prestigious career and Sunday's derby will be his 56th and final derby.

There had been doubts over whether the 40-year-old defender would retire this summer, as he has said that he was going to retire at the end of the previous two seasons, but has been persuaded to change his mind on both occasions.

This time he said that there will definitely be no coming back.

"It will be my last derby on Sunday night," Maldini told Corriere della Sera.

"With the start of the return fixtures I'm making my final appearance against every team. It makes me feel proud.

"My dream is to win this final derby and that is the only thing that matters to me.

"We need a win so that we can rekindle our hopes of winning the Scudetto."
