Alessandro Costacurta has ended his first coaching job with a resignation as the former AC Milan legend has resigned from Serie B side Mantova.
Costacurta took over the job from Giuseppe Brucato in October, but things didn't go according to plan.
With just 16 points in 14 matches, the 42-year-old decided to cut his losses after a second consecutive defeat and ended his contract, which had been due to expire in 2010.
"I'm sorry about the way things have gone," he told journalists.
"The best thing for Mantova is if I leave. I don't know if it is the right decision, but I hope it is."
Costacurta ends his first experience on the bench with a record of 4 wins, 5 draws and 4 defeats.
