Tottenham have completed the signing of goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini on a free transfer from London rivals Chelsea.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has been looking for a new goalkeeper after allowing César Sánchez to join Valencia and he has turned to Cudicini.
The 35-year-old Italian arrived at Spurs' training ground on Monday and has quickly agreed a move to White Hart Lane.
Cudicini, whose existing contract with Chelsea was due to expire in the summer, has seen his first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge limited since the arrival of Petr Čech in 2004 and he has now decided to move on.
A Chelsea statement read: "We can confirm that Carlo Cudicini has today signed for Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.
"The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Carlo for his years of service and wish him well."
Cudicini is expected to challenge Heurelho Gomes for the No.1 shirt at Spurs and he is expected to go straight into the squad for the midweek game with Stoke.
He said: "I met Heurelho Gomes and Ben (Alnwick), so it will be fantastic to work with them and we’ll try to push each other. I think it will be a fair competition and that is good for the team.
"At this moment the team is not in the best position but it doesn’t matter. I’m here to bring some experience and try to push this club forward.
"No-one expected Tottenham to be in this situation. I think the team has the quality and the character to come out of this situation.
"It's five months until the end of the season and we have to fight in every game to get out of this situation as soon as possible. I hope I bring some points.
"I'm really happy with this choice. This was the time to find a new challenge and push for other success - and for the club as well."
