Adriano and Mourinho handed suspension

Inter Milan striker Adriano has been handed a three-match suspension after video footage showed him punching an opponent during Inter's 1-0 victory over Sampdoria, while his boss José Mourinho has also been awarded a one-match touchline ban after being sent off in the same match.

Adriano was the Nerazzurri's goal hero in Sunday's win, but he should have been sent off before scoring the winning goal after he punched Sampdoria defender Daniele Gastaldello in the stomach in the 38th minute.

The action was not noticed by the referee but the league imposed the ban after reviewing television footage that showed the punch.

"During an Inter corner kick Adriano and Gastaldello clashed and the Inter player hit his opponent with his right arm, making contact with his abdomen," an official explanation reads.

The Brazilian hitman will now miss three matches and may struggle to regain a place in the starting 11.

Meanwhile, his coach Mourinho is also facing a sideline suspension after being sent to the stands just before Adriano's goal for arguing with the referee.

Mourinho confronted Massimo Celi after the referee decided to book Inter midfielder Dejan Stanković for a late tackle.

The Portuguese tactician said: "I was sent off because I told the referee that he had fear.

"There had been so many players booked in the first half. Stanković had made a perfect tackle.

"I would prefer not to say much about the referee although I think he had little experience and he feared someone.

"He is the first referee to have sent me off in Italy, hence, I will never forget him.

"What is his (referee's) name again?"
