Edwin van der Sar will sign a one-year contract extension with Manchester United, according to the player's agent.

Despite speculation that the 38-year-old could retire at the end of the season, van der Sar has previously insisted he is no hurry to hang up his gloves.

And his agent, Rob Jansen, has now announced that he has been in discussions with United for a couple of weeks regarding fresh terms, and that agreement has now been reached.

He told ANP: "Manchester will make it known officially on Friday.

"We have already been in talks about a new contract for a couple of weeks.

"Now we have reached an agreement. It is for one year. What will happen after that, I don't know."

Van der Sar played for Ajax, Juventus and Fulham before joining United in June 2005.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has since described him as the best goalkeeper the club has had since Peter Schmeichel.

The Dutchman will go down in United legend for his sudden-death penalty save from Nicolas Anelka that won last season’s Champions League against Chelsea.
