Ashley Young scored with only seconds of injury time remaining to hand Aston Villa a 3-2 win over Everton in a breathtaking finish at Goodison Park.

Villa pounced for the quickest Premier League goal of the season when Steve Sidwell drilled a thunderous 25-yard drive to put them ahead after only 34 seconds.

The home side were level after 30 minutes when Joleon Lescott steered home Mikel Arteta's free-kick following Leon Osman's flick-on.

But then a shocking error from Phil Jagielka, arguably Everton's best performer this term, gifted Villa the lead again on 54 minutes.

The centre-back played a back-pass without looking and Young raced onto the ball to lift his shot past the stranded Tim Howard.

However, Everton hauled themselves level deep into the last of the added three minutes as Tim Cahill won a crucial flick ahead of Martin Laursen and Lescott acrobatically volleyed home an equaliser.

The crowd went wild as Lescott embarked on a jersey-waving, fist-pumping celebration in front of the disbelieving Toffees fans.

Yet, in the cruellest twist of all, it was that goal salute which cost his side such a hefty price.

Referee Martin Atkinson added on even more time and immediately from the kick-off Young weaved his way inside from the right wing before firing the winner past Howard.

This time there was no chance of another rescue act as the referee blew almost as soon as Everton restarted.

Elsewehere, Portsmouth drew 1-1 at bottom side West Bromwich Albion.
