William Gallas stripped of captaincy

William Gallas has officially been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy, according to The Sun.
Furthermore, the 31-year old, who was handed the armband at the start of last season, will not travel with the rest of the squad to take on Manchester City at Eastlands on Saturday afternoon.
The move comes after the France international revealed rifts in the Gunners dressing room, including details of a bust-up during half-time in the 4-4 draw with rivals Tottenham.
Gallas claimed he had to break up a fight between Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott at half-time during the explosive draw with Spurs last month.
The defender also claimed there was a rat in the Emirates camp who everyone dislikes, thought to be Emmanuel Eboué.
Those revelations were then followed the release of a part of his autobiography detailing a row with a young member of the France squad during Euro 2008 finals.
A number of former players have been quick to criticise Gallas for the outburst and it now appears as though Arsène Wenger has acted quickly to discipline the French defender.
"I am stunned," former Arsenal left back Nigel Winterburn told Sky Sports.
"I said earlier in the day that I didn't think it would happen but it just shows the manager's disappointment. Arsène is loyal to his players and he must be seriously hurt.
"It looks like it could be the end of Gallas' career at Arsenal when you consider the fact that he will not be travelling at the weekend."
It was initially understood that Gallas had been stripped of the captaincy, but the latest development raises doubts about Gallas' future with the club, just two years after he joined the Gunners from London rivals Chelsea.
Arsenal have yet to confirm the news but there is speculation that goalkeeper Manuel Almunia or full-back Gaël Clichy will captain the side against City, as Cesc Fàbregas is suspended and Kolo Touré injured.
