Nabil Dirar marked his first Ligue 1 start of the season with a late wonder strike to give AS Monaco a 2-1 victory at relegated Valenciennes on Saturday night.

With the 19th-placed hosts already down and their opponents guaranteed to finish as runners-up behind champions Paris Saint-Germain, there was little play to for.

Valère Germain put Claudio Ranieri's men in front five minutes before the break but Tongo Doumbia levelled with 20 minutes to go.

Dirar then sealed Monaco's first victory at Valenciennes since 1981 with a fabulous effort in the 87th minute.

The Moroccan midfielder ran at the Valenciennes back line, before cutting in on his left foot and firing an unstoppable drive that left Nicolas Penneteau rooted to the spot

"I am pleased for Nabil. He scored a great goal," Ranieri said after the match.
