Table of Contents
Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon registered a contender for one of the worst penalty misses ever in their 2-0 defeat at at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.
The visitors were nearly off to a dream start at White Hart Lane when they were awarded a seventh-minute spot kick after Moussa Dembélé had brought down Marouane Chamakh inside the box.
Having tucked a spot-kick away on New Year's Day against Norwich City, Puncheon bounded forward to do the honours.
However, the on-loan Southampton player got it all wrong with a kick more suited to rugby than football, horribly ballooning his effort high into orbit.
Amazingly, Puncheon is the first player to miss the target when taking a penalty in the Premier League so far this season.
"He's changed his mind last minute," Palace manager Tony Pulis said afterwards. "If you do that it causes you problems. You can't do that taking penalties."
