In a brilliant display of generosity, fans of Championship club Bournemouth are raising money for Burton Albion's supporters to travel for the rearranged FA Cup third round tie on January 14.
Bournemouth's home tie against Burton on Saturday was postponed just over an hour before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch at the Goldsands Stadium, with Burton followers having already made the 185-mile journey to the south coast.
However, Burton fans now look set to benefit from free bus travel should they wish to attend the rearranged fixture, after a group of Bournemouth supporters set up an online fundraising page.
The remarkable gesture has its roots in the Cherries' promotion from League Two in 2010, which was clinched at Burton.
Bournemouth fans were bowled over by the way they were treated both at the Pirelli Stadium and in the Staffordshire town generally and felt moved to make a nice gesture of their own.
A message on the fundraising page read: "On 24th April 2010 AFC Bournemouth secured promotion to League 1 with a 2-0 victory over Burton Albion.
"The way our fans were treated that day from the pubs, to the stewards to their fans was just brilliant and has left great memories in many of our fans' minds.
"We were due to meet them for the first time since that joyous day in the FA Cup but the game was postponed just over an hour before kick-off, with most away fans in the Bournemouth area having to face a frustrating day of travelling.
"As a sign of good will, David Whitehead came up with the idea of Cherries fans chipping in to help fund a coach for our friends at Burton Albion so they can experience free travel and enjoy the re-arranged fixture."
Grateful Burton supporters were quick to add their thanks.
Wayne Pycroft posted a message on the website: "This shows the true spirit of Cup football. Neither club will win the final but many will remember the great gesture between two clubs.
"Hopefully, Bournemouth fans will get recognised for this great gesture by the FA with a special fans award."
Craig Grant, who made a sizeable donation, wrote: "I know what it's like to travel and have the game postponed. Happened to me at Notts Co a few years back! I always look out for Burton after our great reception there."
