Goal of the day: Manolo Gabbiadini (Sampdoria) vs Catania
Table of Contents
Manolo Gabbiadini scored a magnificent goal as Sampdoria claimed their first Serie A win in six games with a 2-0 win over Catania on Sunday.
The Blucerchiati had not won since October 26 and their record of just two points from five games had seen them sit precariously close to the relegation zone.
But they were on fire since Siniša Mihajlović replaced Delio Rossi, earning two draws against Lazio and Inter Milan along with a midweek 4-1 success over Verona in the Coppa Italia.
After a goalless first half at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Sampdoria took the lead in the 54th minute when Éder headed home Lorenzo De Silvestri's cross.
The hosts then sealed victory with a second goal 13 minutes from time with a classy finish by Gabbiadini.
The 22-year-old forward was released down the right-hand side, where he cut inside and fired in a shot that sailed into the top corner.
