The home side dominated the ball but were unable to create many chances, while Juan Ignacio Martínez's men were ruthless whenever they got a sniff of an opening.

And the game was sparked into life when Ebert broke the deadlock with an impressive goal from distance after half an hour.

The 26-year-old controlled a ball upfield 30 yards out, cut back to shed two defenders before unleashing a powerful left-footed drive into the far corner of the net.

Javi Guerra doubled Valladolid's lead in the 39th minute and Daniel Larsson completed the scoring shortly after half-time as Valladolid leapfrogged Rayo in the league standings.
