Víctor Sánchez scored a cracking opener to inspire Espanyol to a thrilling 3-2 win against Athletic Bilbao at the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat on Monday.
After a rather dull opening, Víctor brought the game to life in the 24th minute with a stunning goal.
Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz punched away a Simão Sabrosa corner, but straight to Víctor outside the area.
Having raced from a central position to near the corner of the 18-yard box, the 26-year-old showed exceptional balance and composure to fire a beautifully precise long-range shot that bounced in from high up the near post.
The former Barcelona midfielder then put the home side ahead again in the opening stages of the second after Óscar De Marcos had levelled proceedings just before the interval.
Sergio García then gave Espanyol a two-goal cushion in the 66th minute and while Ibai Gómez narrowed the deficit in injury time, his strike proved too little too late.
"I don't think I've ever scored a goal like that," Víctor said after the game.
