Reaños was lining up in a home game against Universitario in the Peruvian Primera Division, with the hosts in desperate need of a win to help get them out of the bottom two of the division.

It was all going well for Unión until just before the hour mark when an extraordinarily embarrassing own goal gifted their opponents a 1-0 victory.

Reaños collected the ball in his own area after a Universitario attacker was dispossessed.

With absolutely no pressure around him and plenty of time, he amazingly blasted the ball into the top corner of his own net.

The result ensured that Unión will finish in the bottom two of the league and thus they will be relegated at the end of the season.

To his credit, Reaños took to Twitter to claim responsibility for the defeat and apologise to his teammates and supporters.

He said: "I feel so bad, it was my fault we lost today. I want to say sorry to my teammates and all the people at Unión Comercio."
