Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang enjoyed a dream Bundesliga debut on Saturday as his hat-trick led Borussia Dortmund to a 4-0 win at Augsburg in their first Bundesliga match of the season.
Jürgen Klopp's side were not at their fluent best but Aubameyang was a magnet for the ball in goalscoring positions.
The first Gabon player to appear in the Bundesliga became wasted no time in making his mark in Germany's top flight when he headed Dortmund in front in the 24th minute.
Aubameyang added a second on 66 minutes as he latched onto Marco Reus' pass and fired home across the goal.
The 24-year-old went on to convert a great pass from Robert Lewandowski on 79 minutes to wrap up his hat-trick and become the sixth player in Bundesliga history to hit three goals on his debut.
The €13-million signing from Saint-Étienne was then given a standing ovation as he was replaced by Jonas Hofmann, who almost immediately earned a penalty.
Lewandowski stepped up to the spot to open his account for the season and complete the rout.
"That was a super start for me," a beaming Aubameyang said afterwards.
"The intensity in the league here is much higher than in France. Our aim is to work hard and see what is possible in this season."
Klopp added: "Aubameyang was used to great effect. I am not surprised about what he has to offer, only the fact that most of his shots went in."
