AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong confirmed his Achilles tendon injury is behind him with a fantastic goal in a 2-1 win over Valencia in the International Champions Cup at the Mestalla.
Valencia squad did not include departing captain Roberto Soldado, while Milan included new signing Andrea Poli and star duo Kevin-Prince Boateng and Robinho in their starting line-up.
Robinho put the Rossoneri ahead in the 22nd minute, with the Brazilian making amends after missing a penalty just minutes earlier.
De Jong then went one better and scored a stunning second seven minutes before the interval.
Valencia defence were unable to fully clear their lines, allowing Boateng an easy set-up for de Jong outside the box.
The Dutch midfielder made no mistake as he unleashed an unstoppable right-footed shot that dipped under the crossbar, giving Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita no chance.
Valencia pulled a goal back early in the second half through Dani Parejo, but despite their persistence, the Spanish side could not find a second goal.
"I am very proud about my goal after all I have gone through in the last six months," de Jong spoke to Milan Channel after the final whistle.
"I expected to have reached this level of fitness considering how hard I have been working at Milanello."
