Goal of the day: Nicolás Castillo (Chile U-20) vs Ghana U-20
Table of Contents
Despite Nicolás Castillo scoring a cracker, Chile were beaten 4-3 in extra time by Ghana in the quarterfinals of the U-20 World Cup on Sunday.
Both teams had early efforts on goal, but it was Ghana who took the lead in the 11th minute through 16-year-old midfielder Moses Odjer.
Chile always looked threatening on the break and midway through the first half they leveled matters with an equally spectacular goal.
Christian Bravo was the architect, stealing possession in midfield and playing in Castillo at the angle of the box.
The in-form striker still had plenty to do but he continued his goal-a-game record at the tournament with a powerful effort from tight angle that crashed into the roof of the net at Eric Antwi's near post.
Ángelo Henríquez put the South Americans ahead four minutes later, only for Ebenezer Assifuah struck for Ghana in the 72nd minute to force extra time.
Henríquez completed his brace in the 98th minute, but Seidu Salifu's goal and a last-gasp strike from Assifuah helped Ghana seal a thrilling 4-3 victory.
