Goal of the day: Arturo González (Mexico U-20) vs Spain U-20
Table of Contents
A wonder strike from Arturo González could not prevent Mexico from getting knocked out of the U-20 World Cup after a last-gasp 2-1 defeat to Spain on Tuesday.
Favorites to hang on to their title at this tournament, Spain didn't get off a great start as Mexico took the lead within two minutes of the opening whistle.
Raúl López hit a deep, swooping cross from the middle third towards González at the back post.
And González met the sumptuous service with a vicious left-footed volley past Spain goalkeeper Daniel Sotres.
Spain asserted themself in the final stages of the match, and late goals from Real Madrid duo Derik and Jesé saw them complete the turnaround.
