Negredo, who was fourth top scorer in La Liga last season with 25 league goals, arrived in Manchester on Thursday to undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

The Spain international becomes City's third summer signing following the arrivals of Jesús Navas and Fernandinho at the Etihad.

"It's a very important moment in my career because I am signing for a great club like Manchester City," Negredo told the club's official website. "It's a dream to be here.

"I am here to work hard, help my teammates so that we can become the best we can together. I want to try to lift some trophies here."

Negredo is the first incoming deal completed since Manuel Pellegrini officially took the reins as City manager, with the signings of Navas and Fernandinho taking place in the days before the Chilean's appointment.

The ex-Real Madrid man said: "(Pellegrini) phoned me and explained to me how he envisioned this project. I really didn't need much persuading but yes, he was convincing.

"Pellegrini's football is very attacking, attractive. He loves to have ball possession, play a passing game. He accomplished great things in Spain so it will be a pleasure to work with him."

The 27-year-old will compete for a starting spot with Argentina forward Sergio Agüero, and Bosnian hitman Edin Džeko.

Negredo added: "Of course, I know the Spanish players but besides those the ones I know best, are Kun Agüero and Edin Džeko. They are both great players.

"I have played in many systems - with two strikers, sometimes one striker and one attacking midfielder. I have also played as a sole striker and three midfielders behind.

"To be honest, what I want is to play as much as I can and help the team."

Negredo spent the last four seasons playing alongside Navas in Andalusia, and is hopeful that the two men can combine successfully for City next term.

He said: "I phoned Jesús and Javi García on Thursday morning before the official confirmation of my transfer. They were very happy and I am too.

"To be teammates again is great. Jesús is a great guy. He's a spectacular player and I hope I can keep scoring with his assists here."

The Spaniard will link up with the rest of the City squad for their ongoing pre-season tour in South Africa.
