José Mourinho has revealed how his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo broke down towards the end of last season because the player was too precious to take criticism.
Mourinho spent three years working with the world's most expensive player at Real Madrid before this week quitting Spain to take the Chelsea boss job.
Ronaldo scored 165 goals under his compatriot, but the relationship between the pair broke down during the end of Mourinho's tenure at the Bernabéu.
Speaking to Spanish television show Punto Pelota, Mourinho said: "Cristiano has played three fantastic seasons, all of them, with me.
"I don't know if they were the best of his career because he had some fantastic moments with Manchester United, as he would tell you.
"I think we found him in a great tactical situation to get the most out of his goal-scoring potential.
"I had just one problem with him, very simple, very basic and it's from a tactical aspect that I noticed, which I brought up in order to improve upon and make him better.
"And at that moment he didn't take it very well because maybe he thinks he knows everything and the coach cannot help him to develop more. But that's the only problem."
