Goal of the day: Okay Yokuşlu (Turkey U-20) vs Australia U-20
Table of Contents
Okay Yokuşlu produced a truly world-class chip to hand hosts Turkey a 2-1 victory over Australia and a place in the knockout stages of the U-20 World Cup.
After a slow first half, the Socceroos took the lead after 52 minutes when James MacLaren tapped home from close range.
The lead, however, was short lived as Turkey hit back only two minutes later through Hakan Çalhanoğlu.
Both sides pushed hard for a winner as full time approached, and it was host nation that managed to clinch the winner three minutes from time.
Okay carried the ball forward and with Australia's defense sitting off, the Kayserispor youngster measured a beautifully judged chip over the stranded Paul Izzo from 25 yards.
Turkey now march on to a showdown with France in Gaziantep next Wednesday.
