A Lee Tomlin stunning solo effort was not enough to prevent Peterborough United from losing at Crystal Palace and dropping out of the Championship in the process.
Having slipped into the relegation zone due to results elsewhere, the visitors gave themselves a lifeline when they took the lead on 27 minutes and what a goal it was.
Tomlin picked up the ball on the left hand side and took on the Palace defense.
After breaking away from three defenders, he found himself on the edge of the area and sent a low shot past Palace goalkeeper Julián Speroni and into the back of the net.
However, the stunning effort in Saturday's clash at Selhurst Park was cancelled out by a Glenn Murray penalty shortly before half-time.
Peterborough looked to have secured their spot in the second tier of English football after Nathaniel Mendez-Laing put them 2-1 up after 63 minutes.
But Posh fans could only watch on in horror as late strikes from Kevin Phillips and Mile Jedinak won the game and sent Darren Ferguson's side down to League One after two seasons in the Championship.
