Disgruntled fans of a Serbian regional league club Mačva Šabac have vented their frustration at the club's repeated failure to gain promotion by digging a grave on their pitch.
Early on Sunday morning, home officials spotted the grave in the centre circle of their Šabac Stadium.
The two-metre long shallow grave was also adorned with a crucifix carrying a gruesome message which read: "Second division or this".
Serbian police have opened an enquiry into the incident, although the people responsible remain unknown.
"We cannot believe that someone could have such an idea," Zvone Jovanović, a Mačva official, told AFP.
"For years we were getting really close to be promoted into the second division and we failed to reach that goal by only a few points."
And the ghoulish tactic worked as Mačva went on to win a league match that moved them up to second in the table.
