Nuri Şahin scored a wonder goal and set up another as Borussia Dortmund sealed a narrow 2-1 victory at Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday.
Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp made 10 changes to the side which had downed Real Madrid 4-1 last Wednesday, but the outcome was still the same.
With 20 minutes played at the Esprit Arena, Dortmund went in front.
Sebastian Kehl disrupted a Dusseldorf attack to find Moritz Leitner, who duly laid the ball off for Şahin.
The Turkish midfielder looked up, saw Dusseldorf goalkeeper Fabian Giefer off his line and struck a fantastic long-range effort into the top corner from fully 35 yards out.
Substitute Jakub Błaszczykowski increased the lead in the 69th minute, latching onto Şahin's fine pass with the outside of his boot to beat Giefer.
The home side pulled a goal back through Adam Bodzek in the 88th minute, but it was too little too late.
