Goal of the day: Emmanuel Eboué (Galatasaray) vs Real Madrid
Table of Contents
Emmanuel Eboué scored an absolute thunderbolt strike as Galatasaray succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium.
The hosts, trailing 3-0 after the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final, fell further behind when Cristiano Ronaldo scored after just eight minutes.
Galatasaray continued to fight in the second half, and they finally got on the scoresheet on 57 minutes - and it was one worth waiting for.
A speculative ball across the Madrid area was not picked up by anyone, which allowed Eboué to meet it just on the edge of the area.
And the ex-Arsenal full-back let fly a first-time shot with the outside of his boot which arrowed beyond a static Diego López and ripped into the top corner of the net.
Wesley Sneijder then scored in the 71st minute before Didier Drogba added a third a minute later with a cute backheel to give the Turksh giants faint hope of going through.
But a late goal from Ronaldo killed Fatih Terim's side off, shortly after Álvaro Arbeloa was sent off, to put the Spanish giants through to the semi-final stage.
