Edgar Mejía scored a 24-yard blast to lead Chivas USA to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Fire on Sunday at Toyota Park.
The hosts dominated possession in the first half, but they were outplayed thoroughly by Chivas in the second period.
And the visitors broke a scoreless tie with a marker in the 57th minute.
Juan Agudelo, with his back towards goal, played a square ball to Mejía, who unleashed a right-footed blast from 24 yards out and beyond an outstretched Paolo Tornaghi.
Patrick Nyarko levelled the score seven minutes later before Joaquín Velazquez and Agudelo scored within a two-minute span to put the game away for Chivas.
Fire defender Jalil Anibaba's 89th-minute own goal capped the disappointing day.
"The first goal was scored from a ball advancing out of the box and Mejía had a very nice finish off a half-volley," said Tornaghi after the game.
