Goal of the day: Rafael (Man United) vs QPR
Table of Contents
Brazilian full-back Rafael struck a thumping strike to set Manchester United on the way to a routine 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday.
Things looked to be off to a bad start for QPR when the visitors took the lead on 23 minutes in spectacular fashion.
Robin van Persie battled his way to the byline and his cross-shot from a narrow angle was palmed away by QPR goalkeeper Júlio César.
But Rafael was more alert than his marker as he latched onto the loose ball and arrowed home an unstoppable 25-yard volley into the top corner.
Ryan Giggs then sealed the points for the league leaders 10 minutes from time with a well-taken low strike.
"I can't remember scoring a better goal. I think it's my best," Rafael told MUTV.
"I just saw the ball coming towards me and hit it as hard as I could. You can feel by the way you hit the ball that it's going in. I just hoped it wouldn't deflect off anyone. It was a good goal."
