Goal of the day: Juan Mata (Chelsea) vs Newcastle
Table of Contents
Juan Mata scored a beauty but couldn't prevent Chelsea from losing 3-2 to Newcastle United at St James's Park on Saturday.
Jonás Gutiérrez's header had given Newcastle a half-time lead, but Chelsea emerged a different side after the break and equalised through Frank Lampard on 54 minutes.
Then, six minutes later, the Blues had gone ahead thanks to a superb Mata effort.
Branislav Ivanović charged down the right and his cross hit a defender but it fell to substitute Fernando Torres, back-to-goal.
He laid it off to Mata who unleashed a delicious curling shot which landed decisively in the far corner.
The Blues have developed an unhappy habit of failing to hold onto a lead just lately and Moussa Sissoko took full advantage of their nervousness by scoring a double to give Newcastle back-to-back wins.
