Goal of the day: Glen Johnson (Liverpool) vs West Ham
Table of Contents
Glen Johnson put Liverpool on their way to a 3-2 victory over West Ham at Upton Park with a stunning opener on Sunday.
Liverpool dominated the early exchanges and took the lead in the 11th minute with a superb strike from Johnson.
The full-back collected a Steven Gerrard pass on the touchline, nudged the ball away from Matt Jarvis before unleashing a stunning strike from 20 yards which nestled beautifully into the top corner.
The strike really ought to have been followed by the most exuberant of celebrations, such was its sheer quality. However, the former Hammer refused to celebrate as a mark of respect to his old club.
A Mark Noble penalty and a Gerrard own goal then put the home side in front at the break before a second-half effort from ex-Hammer Joe Cole and an unfortunate James Collins own goal turned the game around late on for the Reds.
"It was a special goal from Glen and he's a player in form," said Gerrard.
"His consistency levels, and not just this season but for a long time now, have been very good.
"He's certainly up there with the best right-backs in the world."
