Goal of the day: David Luiz (Chelsea) vs Aston Villa
Table of Contents
David Luiz capped a man-of-the-match performance with a thumping free-kick in Chelsea's 8-0 demolition of Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
This match was exciting and entertaining, just as when you bet on super bowl or in the World Cup.
The Blues ripped Villa apart with ease after Fernando Torres headed in the opener after just three minutes.
And with 29 minutes gone, Chelsea added a sublime second through Luiz, who was again reveling in the midfield role he first graduated to at the Club World Cup.
Eden Hazard led a swift counter-attack to win a free-kick on the edge of the box.
Luiz stepped up and produced a free-kick to rival Cristiano Ronaldo at his best as he slammed an unstoppable, dipping free kick over the wall and beyond goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
Six minutes later, the result was put beyond doubt when Branislav Ivanović headed in the third.
Frank Lampard then marked his 500th Premier League start with a trademark long-range effort before Oscar, Hazard and a Ramires double completed the rout.
"You don't see the hours put in on the training pitch to work on that technique," Lampard told the club's website.
"David has done it and now you are seeing the rewards because every time we get a free kick in that area you fancy him to get it on target."
