Table of Contents
An Adriano screamer led Barcelona to an impressive 4-1 victory over Atlético Madrid at the Camp Nou, opening up a nine-point advantage at the top of La Liga.
Radamel Falcao put Atlético ahead with 31 minutes on the clock, bursting away from Sergio Busquets before clipping a wonderful finish over the advancing Víctor Valdés.
Barça had mustered nothing in the opening half an hour and it required a moment of brilliance from an unexpected source to drag them level.
Adriano picked up the ball on the right flank, cut inside onto his left foot before curling a wonderful, dipping shot into the far top corner off the underside of the crossbar.
The game then swung in Barcelona's favor, with Busquets scoring in first-half added time and Lionel Messi grabbing a double in the second-half to wrap up the victory.
"Adriano's goal was very important. The goal gave us morale and from that point on we carried the initiative of the match," said Barça coach Tito Vilanova.
"Adriano is playing at a great level. The most important thing is for him to feel good. He went through a program to improve his fitness and that's helped him a lot. His progress has been fantastic."
