Goal of the day: David Beckham (LA Galaxy) vs Whitecaps
Table of Contents
David Beckham showed off his signature ball bending skills as the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 at the Home Depot Center on Saturday.
Juninho broke the deadlock with one of his trademark blistering shots from outside the area in the 41st minute.
And Beckham put the winning result beyond any doubt 11 minutes from time.
After Robbie Keane was fouled near the edge of the Whitecaps box, the former England captain curled his free-kick over the visitors' wall and past a frozen goalkeeper Brad Knighton.
"I knew if I put it in the corner, the kid wasn't getting there simple as that. And I hit it well," Beckham said after the match.
"One of their players kept on going back and forth, back and forth, but I knew once I hit it and I knew I'd caught it well, it was going in."
Knighton added: "Any time you give someone of that quality a spot that he likes to bend over the wall. He's going to make those nine out of 10 times.
"Unfortunately it was a tough foul for us to give there, and he did what he does best."
The goal was Beckham's sixth in his last eight games and seventh of the season, his best mark in MLS.
"I'm not usually scoring that many, but I'll take it," he said.
