Alain Traoré's splendid double were enough to earn nine-man Lorient a 2-1 win at neighbours Rennes on Sunday.
The Burkinabé striker gave Lorient the lead in the 23rd minute as Rennes lost the ball outside the penalty area, and he curled it over the head of goalkeeper Benoît Costil from 30 meters.
Traoré then doubled his side's lead minutes before half-time with a free-kick from the same distance, a feat which Roberto Carlos would be proud of.
The 23-year-old let loose on a lengthy free-kick that whistled through the air and into the top corner of the net.
Lorient, who had defender Maxime Baca sent off after 32 minutes for a rough challenge on Jonathan Pitroipa, were reduced to nine men when goalkeeper Fabien Audard was shown a red card for fouling the same player eight minutes into the second half.
Rennes did pull a goal back through Pitroipa on 71 minutes but they also finished the match a man less with Cheick Diarra given his marching orders.
