Goal of the day: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) vs Real Madrid
Table of Contents
Lionel Messi scored a stunning goal off a free-kick during Barcelona's loss at arch rivals Real Madrid in the second leg of the Spanish Supercopa.
Things got worse for Barcelona when Adriano was sent off on 27 minutes for tripping up Ronaldo, who was running on to a long ball out of defense.
But Barça regained their composure despite being a man down and Messi dragged them back into contention with a fantastic free-kick on the stroke of half-time.
The Argentine took charge of a free-kick after Xavi was felled 30 yards from goal and curled a breathtaking effort around the defensive wall, past the outstretched arm of Iker Casillas and into the back of the net.
A much-improved Barcelona had chances to score again in the second half, but José Mourinho's men held on to take the first silverware of the season in Spain.
