Goal of the day: Felipe Martins (Impact) vs Union
Table of Contents
Felipe Martins scored a side scissor-kick late in the second half to help the Montreal Impact to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Union on Saturday night.
Impact forward Andrew Wenger scored the opening goal just before half time, leaping in the air to head the ball in on a set play off a corner kick.
Both clubs had to play the final 21 minutes with 10 men after Impact defender Nelson Rivas was sent off along with Union forward Jack McInerney following a shoving match.
From then, both sides pushed for that next, critical goal and it was the home side who sealed the win with 12 minutes remaining.
Defender Hassoun Camara won the ball back before playing a cross towards the top of the box from the right flank where Felipe jumped to side volley the ball towards goal, beating goalkeeper Zac MacMath low to his left.
"I didn't really know if I had a good chance on goal, but it ended up being a nice one," said Felipe.
"Hassoun Camara put in a nice cross. But the most important thing for me was the three points."
