Brazilian legend Ronaldinho has lost a lucrative endorsement deal with Coca-Cola after he was spotted drinking a Pepsi at a press conference.
According to reports, Ronaldinho provoked Coca-Cola into action by turning up at a press conference and sipping nonchalantly from a can of Pepsi, a sponsor of his new club Atlético Mineiro.
That sparked an immediate response from furious bosses at the Atlanta-based firm, and within a blink of an eye Ronaldinho's endorsement deal was terminated.
"Coca-Cola recognises the career and the value of Ronaldinho. However, due to recent developments it has become impossible to continue the partnership," read a statement from Coca-Cola.
With the decision, the 32-year-old's pockets are $750,000 lighter.
"The fact that the player appeared with a Pepsi can was the last straw for the company," said Coca-Cola marketing chief Marcelo Pontes. "But I don't think it was the only reason.
"He didn't perform up to expectations and his name was associated more with negative than positive news."
