The new mascot made its first ever public appearance at a kids' party at the Boot Room Sports Cafe in Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The launch event was attended by local children aged between four and 11, who all received a limited edition "golden ticket" to attend the party which marked the start of a new concerted campaign to enhance the experience of the club's young fans.

"I couldn't believe it when he walked in," six-year-old Daniel told the club's website. "My mum said there might be a special guest but we weren't expecting to see Mighty Red today."

Nine-year-old Lauren added: "I thought Mighty Red was well cool. But I think my sister was a little bit shocked when he first walked in. Then he started doing his mad dance and she loved it."

Mighty Red is a rough representation of the Liver Bird which is the symbol of the city and is seen on the club badge.

Liverpool have traditionally never had a pitch-side mascot and it seems that the club's American owners are set to continue this tradition, with the new mascot solely being used for community events to entertain children.
