C.J. Sapong put Kansas City up 1-0 in the 18th minute with a right-footed volley after a cross from Jacob Peterson.

Toronto's fortunes turned even worse when César doubled the lead 10 minutes before the break.

Graham Zusi sent a corner kick into Toronto's penalty area, where the 33-year-old rushed in unmarked and blasted home a powerful, right-footed volley on his first touch.

The goal marked César's first goal of the season and Zusi's eight assist, tying 2011 MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario for the League lead.

"I really hope that gets (MLS) goal of the week," César said after the match.

"I give 40 percent of the goal to Zusi. He gave me the ball perfect."

Zusi added: "What a goal. Contender for Goal of the Year. If that doesn't get Goal of the Week, I don't know what will. It was just a great finish."
