Wayne Rooney's spectacular overhead kick against Manchester City has been voted as the best goal of the past 20 Premier League seasons.
The sensational goal sealed a 2-1 derby victory for Manchester United at Old Trafford in February 2011.
It was on a shortlist of 10 goals in a poll organized by the Premier League to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Hundreds of thousands of supporters across the globe cast more than 4.2 million votes in the poll, with Rooney's strike gaining 26 percent of the total votes cast.
Dennis Bergkamp's sublime turn and finish against Newcastle United for Arsenal in March 2002 was the second most popular with 19 percent, while Thierry Henry's flick and volley for Arsenal against United in 2000 was third on 15 percent.
"I grew up watching the Premier League so to be voted the Best Goal in the history of the Premier League is a great feeling," said Rooney on the Premier League site regarding the award. "There's so many good goals in that shortlist, goals that I watched in my living room as a kid: Alan Shearer's goal, Paolo Di Canio's, Tony Yeboah's, David Beckham's. "To be competing with them and winning is a great honour for me and something I'm very proud of. I'd like to say a big thank you to all the fans that voted for me." A United player won the same award 10 years ago, as Beckham's audacious strike from the halfway line against Wimbledon in August 1996 won the Goal of the 10 Seasons Award. And, for one last time, here's the greatest goal in Premier League history. Related links: Team Personal Also see:
