Goal of the day: Radamel Falcao (Atlético Madrid) vs Athletic Bilbao
Table of Contents
A brilliant opener from Radamel Falcao inspired Atlético Madrid to a 3-0 win over fellow Spaniards Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League final in Bucharest.
Colombian star Falcao was in top form and he curled home a wonderful opening goal within the opening seven minutes.
The 26-year-old latched onto a good through ball from Diego down the right and he was confronted by Fernando Amorebieta.
But the Bilbao defender slipped, lost a step and Falcao worked a yard of space before curling an unstoppable left-foot shot inside the far post in the upper right corner.
Falcao then added a second in the 34th minute before Diego's late goal sealed victory for the Rojiblancos.
"The first goal? I didn't have an angle so I simply looked for some space," Falcao said after the game.
"They told me to look for the far post from time to time, and this time I listened."
