Referee sends off seriously injured player for diving

A crazy scene played out in a Belgian amateur game over the weekend between Templeuve and Quevy where a player was sent off for diving, when in fact he was seriously injured.
The incident came late in the game when the player in question, Julien Lecomte, crashed to the turf after challenging for a header inside the penalty area.
However, the referee wasn't impressed by what he deemed to be a theatrical feigning of injury and prepared to punish him with a second yellow card for simulation.
The rather significant fact that he was barely conscious didn't deter the official, who marched up to the stretcher and brandished first a yellow and then a red card to the bemusement of Lecomte's team-mates, who were understandably baffled and more than a little angry.
The referee refused to change his mind on the red card, even as Lecomte was being wheeled off the pitch on a stretcher, obviously convinced that being stretchered off the pitch was all part of the act.
Reports after the match suggested that Lecomte had suffered concussion and three displaced vertebrae in the collision.
