Goal of the day: Eduardo Salvio (Atlético Madrid) vs Hannover
Table of Contents
A spectacular last-minute strike from substitute Eduardo Salvio handed Atlético Madrid a 2-1 home victory against Hannover 96 in their Europa League quarter-final encounter.
In-form marksman Radamel Falcao headed the home side ahead on nine minutes before Mame Biram Diouf pulled the Germans level in the 37th minute.
But just when it appeared the visitors would head home on level terms, Salvio had other ideas.
With less than a couple of minutes left on the clock, the Argentine forward held off a challenge and curled a delightful shot into the top corner of the net from 20 yards.
"I always try to do my best and tonight, just as on other nights in the Europa League, I managed to score," Salvio told UEFA.com.
"I'm very happy with my goal but the most important thing was that we achieved what we set out to do which was to win."
