The 30-year-old had earlier put Vancouver Whitecaps one up but two late goals from Seattle Sounders looked to have secured a win for the home side before Hassli hit an equalizing wondergoal in the 85th minute.

Running away from goal toward the right edge of the box, Hassli intercepted the ball after a poor touch by Osvaldo Alonso, and, while turning, buried an 18-yard strike past goalkeeper Kasey Keller just inside the far post.

"I closed my eyes and shot," Hassli said. "I had a lot of luck there."

Caps coach Tom Soehn added: "Big-time players come up with big plays and what can you say about that strike from Eric. That was fantastic."

To his credit, Keller gave credit to Hassli, saying: "I could give him that shot probably another 99 times and I don't know if he's going to score it, but he did.

"Sometimes you've just got to shake somebody's hand and say, 'Hey, that's a hell of a goal.'"
