Wayne Rooney has apologized after swearing down a television camera during Manchester United's win over West Ham on Saturday.
The England striker uttered an audible expletive into a television camera as he celebrated the completion of his hat-trick, which helped United come from 2-0 down to win 4-2.
In a statement released by his club, Rooney has put his outburst down to the emotion of putting his side ahead.
He said: "I want to apologize for any offence that may have been caused by my goal celebration, especially any parents or children that were watching.
"Emotions were running high and on reflection my heat-of-the-moment reaction was inappropriate. It was not aimed at anyone in particular."
The Football Association confirmed they would examine the footage before deciding whether to take any action against Rooney.
It is not the first-time Rooney has got in trouble with pitch-side cameras.
After England's dismal goalless draw with Algeria in last year's World Cup, he directed a foul-mouthed tirade into a camera at fans who were booing the team on the pitch.
