Manchester City have ordered the closure of the Facebook site of the club's groundsman following a personal hate-campaign against bitter rivals Manchester United.
Ged Coyne, a full-time member of City's groundstaff, has had his Facebook account shut down after he posted United-themed insults on it ahead of this weekend's derby.
Instead of a personal picture for his profile, Coyne used a photo of graffiti displaying the words "Fuck MUFC".
The 31-year-old insisted the attacks were "banter" but City officials have made it clear they do not see the funny side in a week when Greater Manchester police have already contacted both clubs to remind them of the importance of not stoking tension among supporters ahead of Saturday's showdown.
A club spokesperson said: "The member of staff in question regrets posting the material and removed it immediately."
