Defending champions Inter Milan are now just five points off Serie A leaders AC Milan, with a game in hand, after a 5-3 home win over 10-man AS Roma.
Wesley Sneijder opened the scoring after just three minutes, but Fábio Simplício responded for the visitors in the 13th minute.
Inter restored their advantage on 35 minutes via Samuel Eto'o and the game seemed to be done and dusted for Inter when Nicolás Burdisso was sent off for giving away a penalty, which Eto'o converted in the 63rd minute.
Thiago Motta then netted a fourth for the hosts 19 minutes from time, but Roma fought back with goals from Mirko Vučinić and Simone Loria throwing the game wide open again.
But Esteban Cambiasso settled Inter's nerves in the last minute, completing the scoring from close range.
